jazzahead! 2024 in Bremen

From 11 to 13 April 2024, Monart founder Gustavo Mezo attended jazzahead! at Messe Bremen, Germany, as a registered professional participant.

The Netherlands and jazz from Africa

The 18th jazzahead! had two focal points: the Netherlands as partner country, with eight Dutch acts among the 40 showcases, and “Jazz from Africa”, a new theme planned for three years, opened by ensembles from Senegal, Kenya and Nigeria. Under the message “Jazz needs diversity”, the showcase programme gave a strong place to women bandleaders, and for the first time since Brexit more bands from the United Kingdom took part.

The fair in figures

The fair registered 2,985 trade participants from 66 nations, and the jazzahead! festival drew 14,490 visitors. Besides the Dutch delegation, Spain, Italy, Sweden and the Baltic countries came with large stands and delegations, the United Kingdom was present again, and Chile exhibited for the second time.
