From 27 to 30 April 2023, Monart founder Gustavo Mezo attended jazzahead! at Messe Bremen, Germany, representing the projects of the pianist and composer Andy Emler and his Compagnie aime l’air: the MegaOctet, the Trio ETE and Make ’em Move.
Germany as partner country
For its 17th edition, jazzahead! made the host country its partner country. Alongside the usual showcase lines, four German bandleaders living abroad formed new ensembles with musicians from France, Austria, the Netherlands and the United States, presented in Bremen as commissioned works. The German Jazz Prize was awarded on the opening evening.
It was the last edition under the artistic directors Uli Beckerhoff and Peter Schulze; Götz Bühler took over as artistic advisor.
The fair in figures
Around 2,800 trade participants registered, more than in 2022, with 1,366 main and co-exhibitors from 51 nations on 5,000 square metres in Halls 6 and 7. The host country accounted for 872 participants, followed by France (166), the Netherlands (163), Belgium (90) and the United Kingdom (89). In all, 428 musicians took part in the 36 showcases and the Friday CLUBNIGHT, whose 30 venues recorded about 5,500 visits. The Netherlands were announced as partner country for 2024.
