From 28 April to 1 May 2022, Monart founder Gustavo Mezo attended jazzahead! at Messe Bremen, Germany, the fair’s first in-person edition after two years of pandemic interruption.
Together again
After a two-year break caused by the pandemic, jazzahead! returned to Bremen under the motto “Together again”, as a hybrid event that international professionals could also follow online. Canada, first planned as partner country for 2020 and then for 2021, became the first overseas partner country in the event’s history.
The conference programme put innovation at its centre, with sessions on artificial intelligence, sustainability strategies for clubs and festivals, online marketing and neighbouring rights. The German Jazz Prize was awarded in Bremen for the first time.
Showcases and figures
The 40 showcase concerts were grouped into four evenings: the Canadian Night, the European Jazz Meeting, the German Jazz Expo and the Overseas Night. From Europe alone, 385 bands from 30 countries had applied. The organisers counted more than 2,700 participants from 55 nations, among them exhibitors, musicians and trade visitors, and nearly 100 concerts over the trade fair weekend, including two evenings in a circus tent on the Bürgerweide. Germany was announced as partner country for 2023.
