Contratiempo on Javier Red’s Imagery Converter album Life & Umbrella

Spanish-language jazz magazine Contratiempo published an article on Life & Umbrella, the second album by Mexican pianist Javier Red, based in Chicago.

What Contratiempo wrote

Este nuevo álbum es mucho más que una simple grabación musical; es una profunda expresión del amor de un padre por su hijo con autismo y un intento de comprender mejor el mundo interior de estos niños extraordinarios. (“This new album is much more than a simple recording; it is a deep expression of a father’s love for his son with autism and an attempt to better understand the inner world of these extraordinary children.”)

The article presents the album’s twelve songs and its organic rhythmic approach away from conventional meters, and recalls Javier Red’s background, from his mentors Michel Block, Ralph Alessi and Steve Coleman to his first album Ephemeral Certainties on Delmark Records.
