On 17 May 2023, Monart founder Gustavo Mezo took part in the Jazz Export Days in Coutances, Normandy, organised by the Centre national de la musique (CNM) and the festival Jazz sous les pommiers, for the projects of Andy Emler and his Compagnie aime l’air.
French jazz for export
The Jazz Export Days ran from 15 to 17 May 2023 during the 42nd edition of Jazz sous les pommiers. After an earlier edition held in a reduced format because of the health crisis, the CNM and the festival joined forces to present the French jazz scene to about thirty international professionals: some twenty from Europe and around fifteen from Asia, North America and South America, among them programmers from the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and Brisbane Powerhouse.
Showcases and networking
Eight French groups, selected from about a hundred applications by the CNM’s international jazz commission and an international jury, played showcases in the Magic Mirrors on the afternoons of 16 and 17 May, among them Camille Bertault, Arnaud Dolmen, Eve Risser’s Red Desert Orchestra and Laurent Bardainne & Tigre d’eau douce. The programme also included a “Pitch & Lunch” session, an evening at Mont Saint-Michel with Vincent Peirani and Émile Parisien, and, on 17 May, a networking session between the delegation and French professionals affiliated with the CNM.
