On Thursday 24 September 2020, the Sikora Culpo Duo, Irish saxophonist Catherine Sikora and pianist Christopher Culpo, gave a free online concert for audiences in Mexico, broadcast at 20:30 Mexico City time on the website of the Mexican label Pitayo Music.
Recorded in Paris
The concert was recorded on 20 August 2020 at L’Atelier de la Main d’Or in Paris, filmed by David Tepfer, with Finola Merivale as sound engineer. Juan Pablo Aispuro of Pitayo Music did the post-production. The Centre Culturel Irlandais gave Catherine Sikora the opportunity to be in Paris and continue her work with Christopher Culpo.
Pitayo Music
Founded in 2017 by double bassist, composer and producer Juan Pablo Aispuro, Pitayo Music is a musical laboratory and a showcase for contemporary music from Mexico City.
“Offering a duo like Sikora Culpo is a bit risky, but I think free jazz is an interesting line that is very much in tune with the social environment we live in and with what we want to broadcast as a label: spontaneous music, mainly from Mexico but also from international representatives with whom we have close relations.”

Back in Mexico, online
The duo had toured Mexico in March 2019, from Zacatecas to Eurojazz. The online concert came a few weeks after the release of The Paris Sessions Vol. 2, Speaking in Tongues on Bandcamp, on 4 September 2020.
A conversation with Anne Graaff
Ahead of the concert, a video conversation with Anne Graaff about synesthesia and her work with the Sikora Culpo Duo was published. Watch it below.
